Kia Niro Review | A Comprehensive Car Review by Wagonex

First impressions of the Kia Niro Hybrid

The hybrid version gives you the best of both worlds because it is a self-charging hybrid which means that, when you decelerate, the car automatically charges the battery. The electric motor and the engine then work in tandem to give you a really good blend of performance and economy.

And of course there’s no ‘range anxiety’ about whether you’ll have sufficient power in the battery to reach your destination.

Does the Kia Niro Hybrid have good performance?

The Kia Niro Hybrid has a 1.6 litre turbocharged 104bhp petrol engine under the bonnet which sends power via an automatic gearbox to the front wheels. Add in the power from the battery driven electric motor and your bhp rises to a healthy 139. Go easily and Kia reckon you’ll get 58.9mpg. You’ll reach 60mph in around 11 seconds and can go onto a top speed of 101mph where allowed. However, thanks to the instant power from the electric motor, it feels quick off the mark.

What features does the Kia Niro Hybrid have to offer?

The Niro is one of the more highly specified models in the range so you get satellite navigation, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth, a really smart colour touchscreen which includes a rear camera; DAB radio, tyre pressure monitor, and a host of safety systems. It’s also worth pointing out that Kia has a fantastic reputation for reliability.

Out on the road, you can’t fail but enjoy driving the Niro. It has the sort of suspension set-up which allows you to hustle along a country lane while not being jarred at town speeds, while light steering makes for easy progress in tight traffic conditions.

The interior is comfy and seriously roomy, and surprisingly quiet too.

In other words, if you need a spacious, comfortable car that is good to drive and very economical, the Kia Niro Hybrid will tick every box.
