Vauxhall Combo Cargo Review | A Comprehensive Van Review by Wagonex

If you want a recommendation for a really good van, check out the WhatVan.com Magazine annual awards.

And, if you are looking for a small, versatile van, you can’t go wrong with the Vauxhall Combo Cargo because it’s the current WhatVan.com ‘Compact Van of the Year’. They said it impressed the judges with its excellent load capacity and efficient engines. High praise indeed.

The Wagonex Combo Combi comes with a powerful 1.5 litre 99bhp turbo diesel engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. Most of these vans spend their lives in urban environments so mpg and emissions are important. Vauxhall reckons you’ll get 64.2 mpg and emissions of 108g/km CO2, making them highly practical and economical for business and private users.

Our really smart van is the long wheelbase version and has a maximum payload of up to 1,000kg and a load volume of up to 4.4 cubic metres. Maximum load height is 1243mm and load length, 2131mm. The low floor means easy access for loading. There are two doors at the rear and sliding doors on both sides of the van.

We’ve gone for the Dynamic trim which means you get air conditioning, DAB radio, Bluetooth, rear parking sensors, cruise control, powered and heated door mirrors, hill start assist, height adjustment to the driver’s seat and a remote control security alarm system. There’s also a stack of safety kits. Who said vans are basic?

And who said they weren’t good to drive? The Combo Combi is a pleasure. It’s actually based on the running gear found in Vauxhall cars so it’s not surprising to find that this small van is good to drive. Okay, it’s designed for life in the city but it’s also more than happy on the quicker stuff.

As compact vans go, there’s nothing better.
