BMW X5 Review | A Comprehensive Car Review by Wagonex

It’s hard to believe that the BMW X5 has been around for almost 25 years. It’s become a bit of an SUV icon attracting drivers who want premium build quality in a versatile 4x4 that is equally at home on the road as it is crossing a soggy field.

However, the X5 has also moved with the times and one of the latest models is the hybrid xDrive 45e….and we’ve got one here at Wagonex.

Put it this way, if you enjoy driving and you like the look or the idea of a high riding, spacious SUV, this BMW X5 will be right up your street.

And it’s easy on the pocket too.

Because it’s a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle), you can charge it at home, work, shop, hotel, park & ride etc, and not use the 3.0 litre six cylinder petrol engine at all. BMW reckon you’ll manage up to 54 miles using the battery only. If you need performance, the engine bursts into life and you’ll accelerate towards the horizon. When both work together you end up producing 384bhp. Make the most of the hybrid technology and in the real world you’ll probably manage mid 50s mpg. BMW say you can achieve over 200mpg….but that will only be IF you drive less than 50 miles and never use the engine….which is highly unlikely. Nice thought though and worth a try!!!

When the time comes to cover a longer distance, this is where the BMW X5 really excels. It is extremely comfortable and provides effortless cruising. The sat nav will also work out when the best time is for the car to use petrol power only, or hybrid power or electric power only. Clever huh? All-wheel drive and an automatic transmission are included too.

We won't list the level of kit simply because it comes with everything you need…sat nav, leather upholstery, climate control etc.

This is a top-class SUV and a modern 21st-century icon. It’s one of our favourites.
