The Volkswagen Crafter is one of the UK’s best-selling big vans. We love them here at Wagonex and actually have two available….one is long wheelbase and the other is medium wheelbase. We’re concentrating on the LWB model here.
Power comes from a 138bhp 2.0 litre turbo diesel engine. You’ll manage around 33mpg. Emissions are 222 g/kmCO2. Drive is via a manual 6-speed gearbox and we’ve decided to ensure that our LWB Crafter really can get you to your destination in the worst conditions because we’ve opted for all-wheel drive. If you regularly drive on country lanes or experience wintry weather up in the hills, it’ll be a massive boon to your business.
You can carry up to 1514kg and loading is simple thanks to two rear doors and a pair of side sliding doors. The rear doors open to 270 degrees to aid loading. The load width of 1,832mm, length 4855mm, height 1961mm, and a total volume of 16.4 cubic metres, means you can easily fit Euro pallets into the Crafter. The LWB allows 6 pallets with room to spare.
This is the latest Crafter which means it has a newly designed power steering system that allows an additional safety kit to be included as standard, so you’ll get crosswind assist, stability control, and automatic post-collision braking. There’s remote central locking which has the facility to lock the cab while keeping the load doors open.
Out on the road, you can tell that the Crafter has a lot of car underpinnings. It rides superbly with very little lean or pitching on twisty roads. This applies whether the van is empty or loaded to the gunwales. Inside, the cab is top class. Any VW car owners will recognise some of the knobs and switches. The seats are extremely comfy too.
Overall, the Volkswagen Crafter is a big van that’s up to the job. Terrific load capacity, ease of access, and great to drive. No wonder it’s the next in line to the epic VW Transporter.
